George Street Association Announces 2011 Festival Lineup

Strong Lineup of Performers Announced for 27th Annual George Street Festival

The Biggest Little Street in North America comes alive for six days of musical entertainment

ST. JOHN’S (July 13, 2011) – The George Street Association has released the final line-up of artists to perform at the 27th Annual George Street Festival, July 28-August 2, 2011.  Opening the Festival will be Newfoundland and Labrador’s very own, Great Big Sea who will take to the stage in Prince Edward Plaza on Opening Night, Thursday, July 28th. Nightly performances will feature artists and bands that appeal to a wide variety of genres and tastes; from local favourites Hey Rosetta! to Canadian rock legends Trooper, to the Boston-based, Dropkick Murphys, a rocking & rolling, green-clover machine with a reputation for phenomenal live shows.  Complementing its list of A calibre rock and roll bands will be a night dedicated to the country and western fan, featuring Newfoundlander Dahmnait Doyle’s band The Heartbroken who will be opening for Jason McCoy and the Road Hammers.  As tradition dictates, our annual George Street Kitchen Party will feature a number of crowd favourite Celtic bands, including Tarahan, Celtic Connection and Masterless Men who will provide a full day of traditional music on Saturday, July 30th, starting at 2:00pm.

“We have continued to raise the bar with respect to the quality of entertainment that has ever performed on stage at a George Street Festival”, commented GSA Executive Director, Seamus O’Keefe.  “The George Street Festival attracts music fans from all over North America and we are able to provide a collection of artists that our George Street patrons have asked for”.  A unique addition to this year’s Festival will be the introduction of the World’s Largest Screech In ceremony on Sunday evening that will undoubtedly appeal to the numerous tourists that have travelled to St. John’s.

Support for this year’s Festival comes from corporate partners Bud Light, Lamb’s Rum, Rogers, Red Bull, North Atlantic Petroleum, Oz Fm, NTV, the Herald and the Delta St. John’s, enabling the Association to put together a line-up second to none during the popular St. John’s Time.
